Véronique and Nicholas got married in Montalcino, on the Tuscan hills, in a charming Spring wedding.
Their special day featured a stunning outdoor wedding ceremony followed by a reception outside under lights in the scenic Val d’Orcia. Talk about a one-of-a-kind magical wedding! When they first got in touch with Brilliant Wedding Tuscany, Véronique and Nicholas explained they wanted a simple wedding with only their closest family and friends. Being a chef, Nicholas was also sure about two things that had to be included: exquisite food and the best Tuscan wines!
We figured what better place than a rustic yet super romantic borgo in Montalcino on the Tuscan hills. They loved the garden chapel, the wine tasting room, and all the authentic Tuscan charm it brought to their wedding day. They filled their stay with laughter, lounging and sipping wine, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Getting married in Montalcino
Rolling hills, fine wine and a medieval atmosphere: this is Montalcino.
Montalcino is a stunning hilltop town enclosed by massive walls dating back to the 13th century. The impressive castle or Fortezza, built in 1361, dominates this perfectly preserved town. You will easily spend hours wandering around the enchanting narrow lanes of this town.
Climbing up to the top will allow you to enjoy a breathtaking view of the southern part of Tuscany with its typical olive groves, vineyards and forests.
Montalcino is best known for one of the world’s finest wines, Brunello di Montalcino. It can be sampled in one of the many wine shops and local restaurants lining the streets, or during a tour in one of the many wine cellars of the area. Featuring various castles, villas and hamlets, Montalcino is a perfect, timeless location for your destination wedding in Italy. Véronique and Nicholas opted for a suggestive and peaceful borgo in Montalcino, surrounded by acres of vineyards and olive groves. The borgo offers everything a couple could wish for: beautifully decorated rooms, a charming chapel, fabulous scenery, and a staff providing extraordinary service.
Exploring Montalcino and Val D’Orcia
A destination wedding is often the occasion to spend a few days of vacation in a new country; so Véronique and Nicholas left Lyon, France, a few days before the big day to enjoy a full weekend of fun in Tuscany.
On Friday night, we throw the couple a small welcome party. The night was filled with hand-made pizza, flowing wine, Italian hospitality, in the wonderful Spring weather under the Tuscan stars. We definitely got off on the right foot!
Saturday was all about exploring Montalcino and Val D’Orcia. We kicked off with a private wine and food tour: a morning day immersed in the best food products and wines of Montalcino and surroundings. The first stop was to an olive mill, where the owner explained the steps of the extra virgin olive oil production process in Tuscany and the couple tasted different kinds of olive oils. The second stop was a dairy run by a family who produces Pecorino and Caprino, two traditional Tuscan cheeses.
However, a foodie day in Montalcino is not complete without a wine tasting experience. The couple visited two wineries. The wine experts guided them through the estates including vineyards, facilities, and aging cellar. At the end of the tour, they had their own reserved area for the tasting. The sommeliers told the story of Brunello wines, their characteristics, and best pairings. Nicholas was really impressed and happy to buy a few bottles to bring back home.
For lunch they tasted other local delicacies including salami paired with vegetables, fresh pasta, and dessert in a small farm with a view of the valley.
Then it was time to work off that big lunch with a nice and easy hiking tour. Véronique and Nicholas explored Montalcino and Val D’Orcia seeing all the beauty that this area has to offer: the city walls, the forest, the olive groves, the vineyards. A light dinner was waiting for them back at the borgo, then it was time to get some rest before the big day.
A rustic, dreamy and intimate wedding
Véronique and Nicholas tied the knot on a gorgeous sunny day. We arranged a special bridal breakfast served in the elegant dining room. The bride was really calm at first but then got the butterflies right before her first look! Nicholas was really sweet, he said: “The best moment from our wedding day was our first look. Véronique was so beautiful she actually took my breath away.” The two married in front of fifty friends and family surrounded by olive groves and the scent of roses in the air.
We chose pastel pink and green for the decorations: they perfectly suit sunny, outdoor weddings. We planned their wedding reception in every detail, taking advantage of the great outdoors. We set up lawn games like bocce ball, we served ice cream from a vintage Fiat 500, we invited a popular jazz band to play live, we set up an olive oil tasting station with various extra virgin olive oils, and had bottles of Brunello as small take-away gifts for the guests.
It was an incredible day filled with happy tears, full stomachs, and lots of laughter. The party lasted till 3 am. Véronique and Nicholas were exhausted but couldn’t be happier. And so were we.
